Vodafone Essar, majority owned by Vodafone, did not disclose financial details of the deal, but said in a statement Nokia Siemens would be its equipment supplier for six telecoms zones, while Ericsson had been selected for three others, including the lucrative Mumbai and Delhi zones.
Vodafone Essar won 3G radio airwaves in an auction earlier this year in nine of India's 22 telecoms zones. The company said it would provide services including video telephony, mobile broadband, and mobile TV on the third-generation network.
Ericsson, Nokia Siemens and Huawei last month won 3G gear deals from top Indian mobile operator Bharti Airtel.
Last week, Bharti Airtel also named Ericsson and Huawei as its network partners for its Bangladesh mobile operations.
